and yet, He hears

this humanness is so painful
my bones echo
in a language i have not yet learned
to understand

and yet, He hears me
He covers my words in His tenderness
and whispers them back in the night

this is quite the strange relationship
that God has chosen —

to exist among us once
to know us, always

and to love us so mightily and instinctively,
like when one sneezes
after breathing in the sand
