the rest of the world can wait

laundry covers the floor, dishes overflow the sink, toys litter the living room, goldfish decorate the couch, trash cans turn upside down

and you are finally asleep

and i am going to just sit here and hold you —
the rest of the house, the rest of the world can wait

the journey here was jagged
but the muscles i stretched from the twists and turns
don’t even ache anymore
my love for you, George, has covered my body like a sweet and gentle salve
and i can finally feel myself breathing again

yes, let the madness unfold around us,
i am going to just sit here and hold you —
the rest of the world can wait
