the sun was so fine and brilliant
bursting through the rain
the downpour itself rolled over on its shoulders
in deference to the light and reach
such a melding of powers, interwoven and yet so separate
in seconds it was over
the celestial glow stripped from the tree branches
the majestic reins handed back to the sky
and i continued to drive on bumpy roads
wondering about places i can’t see
rounding corners and still headed home
to a place she’ll never know
