from the car i can see 2 cherubs next to her,
flanking a new gravestone, a new baby.
and my heart sinks
and i cannot pick it up.
i slip and slide down a sheet of ice
to reach them.
“oh mommy, look…,” my oldest son points to the angels
and turns to me for an answer –
one he already knows.
i nod sadly.
“yes, honey, another baby is next to baby Tinsley now.”
he stares solemnly at the new sacred ground and sighs.
after a few quiet seconds he says,
“it is nice that baby Tinsley has a new friend in heaven.”
he then gently picks up my sad heart for me
and we slip and slide
our way back up the hill.
