Doubting Thomas

“There are many things that we do not see,
but we know are there,”
the pastor says,
“like air, sound, wind, and love.”

and I wish it were that simple.

“Doubt and faith are twin brothers,” he offers, reminding me of Thomas’ declaration:

“Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands,
and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side,
I will not believe.”

“That’s great,” I reply, “but unless Tinsley is placed alive
and well in my arms, or I wake up tomorrow
and this has just been some horrible dream,
I will not believe.”

he knows I don’t really mean it

but it still brings the conversation
to a screeching halt.
