Train tracks and big trucks
and cars and planes
line the hallways of our house
lately these toys make
the rooms seem smaller than they really are.
The playroom walls are light blue
I chose the color before I dared
To dream you might someday exist.
Even when I started to fill your baby closet
I chose yellows and greens.
The thought of a daughter
Was just too beautiful to bear.
It turns out my instinct
to fear the worst was right
(I used to think it was just a sick part of my soul
that fed on the unknown).
But a dark reality has set in
And underground is the only place
That you will ever wear pink.
