flowers on valentine’s day are so expensive
i pause to watch,
somewhat amused, somewhat sad
at the bustle around the floral stand
(and i feel very territorial)
i wonder if anyone here
is buying flowers for a gravestone
no, i chuckle to myself,
the dead would think it’s silly
to pay the sticker price today
tomorrow, though
the cemeteries will be flooded
with half-priced bouquets of vibrant red and pink colors
because the dead don’t care what day is
they aren’t going anywhere, anyways
