i believe in the soul
because i knew immediately
that hers was gone
a physical
and spiritual
weight removed
from my body
and gone to who knows where—
but somewhere.
i believe in the soul
because sometimes
i feel her nearby
a presence as smooth
and thick
as peanut butter on bread,
heavy with love
and unmistakably
my daughter.
yes, there is more
than fingers and toes
and skin and nails
and gravestones
bigger than tiny bodies.
much more
much, much more.
